Further Information

This event is being run by STAG Orienteering Club, Glasgow, as part of an event-sharing opportunity, and some of the details are different from our usual WEE offerings.

FVO Members shall be treated as STAG Members i.e. £5 entry for Seniors & £3 for Juniors.

  1. Start Times from 5:30pm > 7pm.

  2. Travel - exit M80 @ Old Inn interchange & then take the Eastfield Road passing through 3 roundabouts then turn LEFT at the 4th roundabout to parking adjacent to Cumbernauld Primary School.

  3. Courses - to accommodate the differences between STAG & FVO formats the following structure shall be used One map shall be used for both STAG Short & FVO Yellow /Orange - There shall be a cut off point for Yellow Competitors & an extra loop for Orange Competitors - Control Descriptions on map only in text.

Another map shall be used for both STAG Medium / Long & FVO Green - The STAG Long being equivalent to FVO Green - Control Descriptions on map only IOF. Map scale 1:7500. Original survey 2015 by Stirling Surveys. Updated 27th May by Terry.

  4. Pre-registration - so far I have around 20 pre-registered from STAG. If any FVO Members hoping to attend can email me (58teryobrien@gmail.com) by 10am on Tuesday morning that would help with our guestimate of maps.

  5. Terrain - For too many people the word 'Cumbernauld' colours their perception. This is a very pleasant & runnable area to the west of the M80 with wee pockets of intricacy. The Long Course is in the region of 6k with 120m of climb likely. Course lengths shall be confirmed on Monday evening.

Course Details STAG Long / FVO Green - 6.9km - 150m climb - 21 controls.

STAG Medium - 3.1km - 80m climb - 11 controls.

STAG Short / FVO Orange - 2.4km 55m - 10 controls

STAG Very Short / FVO Yellow - 1.5km - 40m climb - 6 controls.

Seasonal undergrowth (especially nettles) is a wee issue so long trousers are recommended, especially for Medium , Long/Green options.
