ORIENTEERING FOR BEGINNERS - Session 2

IMPORTANT Meet: Beecraigs - Lochside car park. To get there, follow signs to the visitor centre but drive on past down to the bottom of the hill and turn right into the car park

Try an outdoor adventure sport in Linlithgow. Ideal for all ages and abilities, families, children and regular runners welcome. Loads of help is available and no experience is necessary. We're running 4 sessions specifically for beginners in the Linlithgow area - every Saturday afternoon in September. Come to any number of sessions. Every week will have different routes for you to try!

Start anytime between 13.30-14.30 (everyone starts at a different time).

Newcomers briefing at 1.30pm. FVO junior stars course briefings (Yellow and Orange) at 2pm.

New to orienteering? It's a trail run (and often an off-trail run!) with a difference - an orienteering race doesn't follow a set route. Instead you have to visit a series of checkpoints and register each one with an electronic timing chip. The checkpoints are marked by flags on the ground and may be along paths, earth banks, streams or anywhere around the area. The challenge is to race between each one, choosing your own route between the checkpoints, using a special orienteering map (which you get to keep too). Why not come and give it a go?

What do I need? It's an outdoor sport, dress for the weather conditions. You may encounter mud and bushy vegetation so please wear long trousers and bring suitable footwear... We'll give you a map and lend you compass and an electronic card for recording your time.

Courses:

Newcomers - Easy course (Yellow standard), approximately 2km all on paths, suitable for children and families

Beginners - A little more difficult course (Orange standard), with some route choices and controls just off the paths, approximately 4km

Cost for Non-members: Group £6, Adult £6, Under 20s £4 Register and pay on the day at the session
