Results
Several people asked at download about the zigzag path north of the main road through Bridge of Allan, which was shown as passable on the map but had yellow non-orienteering signs at top and bottom which said it was closed. (Note this is a different path and sign from the information that was shown in the start boxes - where we highlighted that a non-orienteering 'closed' sign in one particular location meant that a particular path should be treated as new unmapped out of bounds).
We were happy for the runners to use the path (ie treat it as shown on the map) but we recognise that whilst access to it at its foot was fairly straightforward, at the top of the path it was less clearly accessible as there was a barrier across the full width of the path. This affected a route choice on the leg from 217-202 on courses 1-4. We are aware that many people used the path regardless, but that others thought it must be forbidden and so hesitated and/or had to take a detour on their chosen route.
In retrospect we should have managed to explain things in advance and ask you to give the map precedence over any non-orienteering signs in that particular location. However it is clear from the number of competitors raising it post-race that the situation did cause confusion and time loss for some people. As a result we have decided that the fairest overall set of outcomes is achieved by removing the leg 217-202 from affected courses. Please accept our apologies that the competition was affected in this way. The results now published are the results with that leg removed.
